Medical Research & Education Building to close

Timeline of MREB demolition

To prepare for the demolition of the Medical Research & Education Building (MREB), the building will be closed and locked on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

For those who travel through MREB, please utilize the Level A employee entrance to access Building 521. To access Wintrobe, utilize the 3rd floor bridge from Building 521 or use the west entrance from Browning Plaza.

Once MREB is closed, the next step is for abatement to begin, which means that any harmful materials will be professionally removed before demolition starts. The abatement process is highly controlled and represents no danger to anyone in the surrounding area.

Dating back to the early 1950s, the Medical Research & Education Building is one of the oldest buildings on the health campus. Learn more about MREB’s history.

Reoccurring MREB virtual roundtable discussions will be held to answer questions and address concerns during the abatement and demolition process. The next roundtable is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15 at 12 pm on Zoom. See Pulse for more information.
