HELIX receives funding authority and architect chosen

Rendering of HELIX

The new Healthcare, Educators, Leaders & Innovators Complex (HELIX) cleared another milestone as funding authority was approved by the Utah Legislature. The project will build a new office building on the open space next to the Primary Children’s Eccles Outpatient Services facility and be connected via sky bridge to the Moran bridge and University Hospital.

MHTN will serve as HELIX’s architect and was selected because of their experience with major construction projects all over the country, including the recent Carolyn and Kem Gardner Commons here at the University of Utah. They also helped U of U Health with the expansion of the Emergency Department.

The Workspace Taskforce is currently working on programming HELIX. The taskforce is gathering input from the U of U Health community to help them evaluate who we are as an organization now and who we want to become. Understanding that will help in designing a building that is attuned to U of U Health’s missions and gives employees workspaces to support their goals. Of course, all of that leads to better care for our patients and better service to our students.

The timeline for the new building is being developed. Check ct.utah.edu in the future for more updates as the HELIX project progresses.
