The Medical Research & Education Building (MREB) is a relatively small facility tucked next to the Wintrobe Research Building and Building 521. If someone unfamiliar with campus walked past it, they might not even know what it is. Yet, as one of the oldest buildings on campus, MREB is an important historical landmark for University of Utah Health.
As we draw closer to the construction of a new School of Medicine building, MREB is due to be demolished. Let’s take a look back at the history of this small, but pivotal building.
For those who travel through MREB, please utilize the Level A employee entrance to access Building 521. To access Wintrobe, utilize the 3rd floor bridge from Building 521 or use the west entrance from Browning Plaza.
Once MREB is closed, the next step is for abatement to begin, which means that any harmful materials will be professionally removed before demolition starts. The abatement process is highly controlled and represents no danger to anyone in the surrounding area.
