As work progresses on North Medical Drive, an upcoming short-term project at the North Medical Drive and Mario Capecchi Drive intersection may cause some disruption. This update is to help you avoid or minimize any impact to you.
On Sunday, January 16, 2022, a number of traffic lanes will shut down at the intersection. Commuters will NOT be able to:
- turn left from Mario Capecchi onto North Medical
- turn left from North Medical onto Mario Capecchi
Construction flaggers will be present to help direct traffic. These lane closures are expected to last one day, with the left turn lanes reopening on Monday, January 17, 2022.
During this project, commuters will still be able to:
- access University Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute via North Medical Drive. Two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane will shift to the north and remain open.
- turn right from North Medical onto Mario Capecchi, as well as turn right from Mario Capecchi onto North Medical.
This construction is planned for a holiday weekend in an effort to minimize the impact to North Medical Drive and Mario Capecchi Drive commuters. If you need to travel in this area, please consider alternate routes.
For commuters traveling west on North Medical Drive who wish to turn left onto Mario Capecchi Drive, detour down to Wasatch Drive, turn right and head south on Wasatch. At the roundabout, travel all the way around and come back north on Wasatch Drive before turning right on North Campus Drive and heading back to the Mario Capecchi Drive intersection and turning right.
