Commuters will see some new activity as the next phase of construction begins on the North Medical Drive construction project. This new phase will see the traffic lanes beginning at Mario Capecchi Drive heading up to University Hospital shift south. This is to allow work to take place on the north side of the road.
The evening of March 10, preparation work for the lane shifts will begin. Travelers on North Medical Drive will see new signage and construction barriers being staged, along with other shoulder work.
Once this prep work is completed in late April, part of North Medical Drive will be blocked off and the traffic lanes diverted.
At all times, University of Utah Health will keep at least two lanes open up heading to the hospital and one lane open heading away. Despite this, traffic congestion and delays are possible, particularly during peak travel times during the morning and evening rush hours. Please consider building in extra time into your travel plans.
Upon its completion in 2022, the North Medical Drive project will provide a safer and more efficient commute for U of U Health staff and patients. The project is improving North Medical Drive from Mario Capecchi Drive up to University Hospital, in addition to adding a new parking garage next to the new Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and Women’s Cancers.
Thank you for your continued patience as this project moves forward.
